The Fun Has Begun!

Yesterday, we got back to the hotel late afternoon and had a lazy afternoon.  Fly had his obligatory nap and most people around here kept low-key.  We left for the banquet, which was back on the tournament site (in the crating area), at 7:00.  The guys bought a few rounds of beer and around 9pm, they finally served the first course, buffet style.  They were supposed to have done the running order draws, had a hot course and a dessert course, but at 10:15, when it still wasn't ready and our bus driver had been waiting for a long time, we decided to head home.

We may have had a few beers while waiting and made a bit of our own fun!

Originally each country was told that they had to bring their National anthem and their flag.  At check in, they declined our flag saying they had purchased them for every country since last time, one country brought a huge flag!  They still wanted our anthem however.  I am thinking that if perhaps we found a twelve minute version of Oh Canada, maybe next time they will provide those too?  )

Today has been a really long day and unfortunately I'm a little bit brain dead but hopefully I can remember some of the highlights.

Unfortunately I didn't catch our supporters in their usual positions—The gang in red had the letters to spell Canada on their fronts and 'Target' (the dog!) on their backs.  Too funny.  They plan on new letters for tomorrow!

We had an early breakfast and then headed to the site.  The opening ceremonies were nice and short.  We all left our dogs to rest in the 'secure' (no security to be found ANYWHERE) crating and were led around the field by our flag bearer, Marie-Pierre (I can't believe she just turned 12 years old!!).

Trevor, Shannen, Craig, moi, Marie-Pierre, Christine, Kayl & Susan

After the ceremonies, one copy of the Power & Speed course was posted in the crating area.  Turns out all three courses for the day had already been posted on the USDAA website by 6am this morning!!!  A few teams saw them which didn't really go over well with anyone.

All 'scandal' aside, today was a great day.  We had 11 of 12 dogs make it to the end of the Speed section of the power and Speed.  Mr. Fly went clean and finished 7th.  Kayl had two smokin' runs and finished first AND second in the 22" class!  Susan & Decaff also came home with a first in the 16" class

The 'power & speed course'.  I'll post more tomorrow if this one shows up...

Kayl attempting to sweep the podium!  Way to go girl!

We ran the Standard next where Shannen & Target placed 3rd in the Toy class.  Fly had a beautiful run, but for some reason decided that the weaves just weren't for him (twice!!) and earned us two refusals.

The last run of the day was the Jumpers.  We had a lot of Canadian clean runs, but we didn't get the results as things were running a bit late.  Fly was bang-on and we ran very well, but he dropped two bars.

Overall I'm really, really happy with our runs.  They've felt good and Fly & I have been running well as a team.  Hopefully tomorrow we'll keep our feet up and my 'weave-weave-weave-weave' chant will keep his furry bum in those poles!!

We had dinner in our hotel (nothing is quick in Belgium) and I'm soooooo ready for bed.  Sorry for the brief posting.  I definitely have more, but it may have to wait.  I believe that Tracy will be posting the first two classes of results on the AgilCan Yahoogroup.

I do have more photos, but I'm about to run out of internet time (and brain cells). Have a good night everyone!  Wish us well tomorrow—Gamblers, Standard, Snooker & Jumpers.  I hope my shorts survive!  (tomorrow's forecast is for over 30C!).

Great job so far Tiffany! Remember that as long as you stay on course, ANYTHING can happen! And even if you don't, remember that every event is a competition in its own right.
Too funny about the banquet - I remember that we had similar problems with food service in Holland too... Keep stuffing those pockets!

We are all cheering for you all - checking those websites has become a bit of a compulsion for the last couple of days!

Looking forward to the next installment!
    regards

Hi Tiff..so good to get your update once again...I am sure you are "poofed" at the end of a long HOT day (is it really 30 degrees there?)...so we are doubly appreciative of you taking time to stay in touch! Please give a Canadian "hi" to Gavin and Anne when you see them tomorrow. That is so special that they are able to come cheer for you, Fly and all the Canadian team! PS...you can never have too many smiley faces!!!
