Team Practice Weekend

We had an uneventful drive down the 401 yesterday and enjoyed a good pizza party a my cousin's place in Burlington (well, no pizza for Fly...).

We met bright and early at Say Yes for the team practice with the majority of Team Canada (Shannen & Target from out west will meet us in Belgium).  The plan was to run all the same courses that we will be seeing at Worlds.  Marq Cheeq, our out of town coach, sent some great courses.  We all ran Power & Speed (you run an opening sequence of contacts & weaves and then the clock starts and you run the Speed section, which is a jumpers course), a jumpers course and then a USDAA style Gamblers course (with a time gamble as the gamble portion).  Then the skies opened up and we decided that it wasn't really all that pleasant running in the rain and probably not safe for the dogs, so we ended up with an indoor session talking strategy.  We postponed our team photo as we didn't really want to be looking like drowned rats...  Our team uniforms do look pretty great however!

Tonight is a team dinner and we are back out on the practice fields at 8am tomorrow morning before we head as a team for the airport at noon.  We will be flying on KLM from Toronto to Amsterdam and then driving by bus to Belgium.  Most of the team dogs will be on the same flight (Fly, Bogey, Encore, Lightning, Jitter, Slyce, Ping Pong, Pekoe & Minnie).  Susan & Decaff will be catching up with us as they are flying on a different flight so that Decaff can go in the cabin.

Fly & I are doing well.  He's looking great after his recent grooming (thanks Pam!) and in his Canadian maple leaf collar (thanks Heather!).  Fly did have me laughing at him however in the middle of the night last night when he started giving these quiet little doggie sighs.  I gave him a "shhh" and his tail started thumping from under the bed!  What the?  He somehow managed to get under the bed in the middle of the night and was trapped.  It was a very tight fit!  Poor boy let me slide him out and he happily went back to bed.

Hopefully all will go well tomorrow and the next posting will be from Belgium!

    Hi Tiff and Fly,

Great update.. Tiff. I'm so psyched for you and Fly. Have a great time, enjoy the moment(s)!

My Wisk was a bed-wedge doggie... Fly just don't try rolling over under the bed..Humans just don't get the humour at 3am when your jammed in tight that late at night.

    Good luck this week.

    Hugs

    Sue and family.
